The Bachelor 2017: Matty J

In news surprising to no one: Matty J, runner up in The Bachelorette 2016, is the leading man for the 2017 season of The Bachelor.

For those of you who don’t know, Matthew David Johnson, aka Matty J, is a 29-year-old marketing director who was the fan favourite to win the most recent season of The Bachelorette.

However, reality TV editing is often cruel and manipulative. Despite all our high hopes,  his sweet, sweet heart was doomed to lose the competition to a man called Leeroy.  Honestly, Lee was such a wet blanket, compared to Matty J’s adorableness.

Being runner-up clearly wasn’t the end of the world though – now Matty J gets a whole season all to himself and we get to have Osher Günsberg grace our screens again (let’s be real – Osher and his hair is the best bit of this whole series).

Matty seems pretty stoked with this new opportunity. I mean what guy wouldn’t be stoked about a bunch of ladies fighting to death, all for his love?

In a statement released today, he said “without question, the most exciting part is the chance to meet the girl I’m going to spend the rest of my life with.”

I’m sure the small perks of the date budgets extending to hiring out the entirety of Luna Park and flying in helicopters are good too.

Filming of this season of The Bachelor only started in Sydney this week so we won’t get any episodes for a couple of months. In the meantime it might be worthwhile hanging around some iconic Sydney landmarks, just in case a film crew shows up.
