Last week many of our favourite celebrities walked the white carpet for the MTV Video Music Awards at New York City’s Madison Square Garden. Notorious for its crazy and out-there fashion statements, there were no Lady Gaga meat dresses or barely there Miley Cyrus get ups to be seen. Attendees seemed to step it up this year, bringing nothing but glamour to the centre stage. However, not everyone turned heads for the right reasons. The carpet saw its fair share of misplaced waist trainers and wild maternity outfits, but anything’s possible at the VMA’s, right?
Take a look at the best and worst here:
BEST: Beyoncé and Blue Ivy – Never failing to impress, Queen Bee and Blue Ivy set the bar from early on. All eyes were on Beyoncé in her glittering and embellished Francesco Scognamiglio gown and of course, Blue Ivy’s Australian made princess dress, by Mischka Aoki.
BEST: Kim Kardashian and Kanye West – The Wests reintroduced red carpet simplicity. Kim looked effortless, with her little black dress and undone beach hair. Kanye also opted for a casual look, in a simple white t-shirt and pants, paired with his Yeezy 950 boots.
BEST: Chance the Rapper – Chance the Rapper toned down his extroverted personality with a nude and white palette. Not many people can rock overalls on a red carpet, but the rapper executed this cool look extremely well.
BEST: Tove Lo – Choosing comfort over pain, Tove Lo wore Reebok sneakers on the carpet. She paired this with a white off the shoulder, long sleeve dress that fell above the knee.
BEST: Heidi Klum – Internationally recognised model Heidi Klum looked glowing in an embellished long sleeved dress. Paired with matching shoes, the stand out part of this outfit was its open back, which added a girly and summery element.
WORST: G-Eazy – G-Eazy opted for an open red velvet top, paired with black leather pants. Rock star chic? He may have missed the mark this time.
WORST: Laura Perlongo – Catfish Nev’s fiancé chose to wear an open bomber jacket and diamond body chain. I’m all for showing off you’re growing baby belly; However, I feel as if the VMA’s may not necessarily be the right place.
WORST: Lion Babe – Forgetting that waist trainers are meant to be worn under clothing and not on the white carpet, Lion Babe wore a copper coloured waist trainer on top of a black velvet dress. Even the Kardashians leave theirs at home.
WORST: Farrah Abraham – MTV’s reality television star, mostly recognised for her appearance in Teen Mom, Farrah Abraham dressed up as Wonder Woman for this year’s awards. Halloween isn’t till next month?!
WORST: Nick Cannon – Nick Cannon arrived to the awards in a hooded white cut-off top, literally. The star paired this with a headpiece, white shorts and sneakers. A bit too casual?
